Meet the Team: Mariesa Oxford
Mariesa Oxford joined APEX Surface Care in October 2021. Mariesa has more than 10 years’ experience in the corporate sector, including two years in facilities services. As vice president of strategic accounts for the Western region, Mariesa will help guide APEX’s ongoing growth and drive client success.
“We are excited to have Mareisa join our Strategic Accounts team, where her passion for providing robust solutions to our clients will be invaluable. She is committed to exceeding expectations, which translates to premium service delivery to our clients,” said Erik Lind, vice president of national accounts at APEX.
We sat down with Mariesa to welcome her to the APEX team and learn more about her, both personally and professionally.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m the mother of two beautiful daughters, Alexandria, 21, and Isabella, 17. I’m also a Colorado native, having spent my first 30 years there before moving to California for seven years and then to gorgeous Washington! I am happy I get to live with my soulmate by my side as well as my pups, Kona, our 9-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix, and Gus, our 2-year-old Giant Alaskan Malamute. I love exploring new places (we have moved blindly twice). I am a go-getter and have spent the majority of my career learning and bootstrapping my way up to where I am today. I’m proud of the life I have built, and I look forward to becoming part of the APEX family.
2. Why did you decide to join the APEX team?
Over the course of my interviews with APEX, it became clear that the company had the values and culture I was looking for. The mission of the company, the way everyone supports each other, and the caliber of the clients made it a no-brainer when the offer came in.
3. How has your past experience prepared you for your new role?
I have spent the last two years in the facilities world and am very familiar with what it takes to nurture and grow client relationships. Prior to that, I spent 16 years in the architecture, engineering and consulting world, where I became a jack-of-all-trades running operations, finance and business development. The culmination of all my experience has made me well equipped to take on my new role at APEX.
4. What are your hobbies?
I am a huge lover of live music, so I try to take in as many concerts as possible and have been known to travel around the United States to see my favorite band. I’m also a huge Denver Broncos fan, and I bleed blue and orange during football season. The outdoors are another love, which has made Washington such an amazing fit for me considering all the opportunities to kayak, hike and camp with my family and dogs. Finally, I love fitness. I am a certified barre instructor, and I enjoy challenging myself and others to push past limiting beliefs and reach their fitness goals.
5. What's the most interesting article or book you've read lately?
Lately, my reading has been mostly in the self-help or growth arena. I recently read Everything Is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo. This book is full of practical advice on reaching your goals. Some of my favorite authors include Gabrielle Bernstein, Brene Brown and Amanda Frances. I often read several books at once and will re-read chapters that really resonate with me.
6. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This is a tough one for me, but it would probably be a holiday meal. The feeling of the holidays is so special, and if I could smell Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner cooking in my house every day I would be a happy girl. But I also love tacos. They are so diverse. I suppose I could get creative and smash a holiday meal into a taco!
7. What’s on your bucket list?
My bucket list is very long. As my husband and I get closer to becoming empty nesters, one huge bucket list item is to pack up our dogs and take our new camper on a road trip around the country. I want to see as many national parks as possible. I’m also a big U.S. history nerd, so exploring all the historic sites during that road trip would be a dream come true.
