Meet the Team: Marcos Villarreal

Marcos Villarreal joined the APEX Group as business development executive in April 2022. Marcos has been helping companies maintain their physical assets and create healthier spaces for their employees and visitors for more than a decade. In his new role, he will focus on growing APEX’s business in the medical and education sectors.

“Marcos shares the APEX Group’s commitment to helping facility managers provide clean, healthy and attractive workplaces,” said Thomas Holland, CEO of the APEX Group. “His experience and expertise will benefit us greatly as we continue to grow our business locally and nationally.”

We sat down with Marcos to welcome him to the team and learn more about him, both personally and professionally.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I grew up in Corpus Christi doing all things water-related, from fishing and wakeboarding to running boats and simply enjoying the beach life. I've been married to my beautiful wife, Jennifer, for 15 years, and we have two wonderful girls, Chloe Grace, 9, and Hannah Marie, 6, who were born on the same day three years apart.

2. Why did you decide to join the APEX team?

After speaking with Thomas and learning the depth of the APEX Group portfolio, I was impressed with the number of solutions the company offers its clients. I also found the longevity of the employees and the positive attitude of everyone I met to be impressive. My entrepreneurial spirit and extensive experience in the medical vertical fits into Thomas’ vision of where he wants to grow the business, and I felt it made perfect sense for me to join the team.

3. How has your past experience prepared you for your new role?

I was part owner of GermWrap Disinfection, which Thomas acquired. This experience helped me grow as an entrepreneur. I also have 10 years of experience working for Stryker Medical, where I sold maintenance programs on capital equipment in the medical vertical.

4. What are your hobbies?

Saltwater fishing is my passion. I joke to people that if my veins were cut, saltwater would pour out. I also snowboard, bird hunt, and take adventures. With three girls in my life, we go “glamping” instead of camping, which is a blast.

5. What's the most interesting article or book you've read lately?

I just finished Charles Koch’s book Believe in People: Bottom-Up Solutions for a Top-Down World, which was eye-opening for me. It provides a very analytical approach to business in which every person and every employee has a talent to give. Charles Koch is big on social entrepreneurship, which lines up with the B Corp philosophy.

6. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

My wife’s lasagna! It’s great both hot and cold.

7. What’s on your bucket list?

I don’t have a list of things I would like to do before I die, but I want to see my girls grow, be educated, and have great families. If I had a magic wand and could make one wish come true, I would like to fish in the best places around the world for different species of saltwater fish.
